Menswear shows, traditionally held months before the women hit the runways later in the year, are being slowly airbrushed from the fashion industry's calendar and folded into the women's events, almost as an accessory. In Milan, where male models are strutting their stuff in shows that began on Friday for men's fashion week, 10 designers have decided not to showcase their collections this year including Calvin Klein, Ermenegildo Zegna and Kering's Brioni and... Other brands, including Burberry, Gucci and Tom Ford, have announced in recent months that they plan to stage combined events in future. Most said this would allow them to show buyers and customers both collections at the same time, giving a more complete idea of their designs. But some industry insiders and analysts say separate men's fashion shows, which can cost up to hundreds of thousands of dollars each, are no longer worth the money for luxury brands, which have been hit by a global sales slowdown. Menswear pulls in far less money than womenswear, in terms of sales, and men's shows generate a fraction of the global publicity of women's. The women's shows draw A-list celebrities such as George Clooney and Beyonce in their front rows, attract throngs of news photographers and broadcasters and trend wildly on social media. But industry experts explain that fashion shows are not as cost-effective as they once were and that the industry has to pay greater attention to costs as world demand for luxury goods has weakened. Social media is heavily influencing the industry, speeding up demand for new products but also allowing fashion brands to reach out to potential customers more directly and inexpensively. Elizabeth Rose, director of the men's section at Premier Model Management, said that although merging male and female shows is in the best interest of designers, it was a "disaster" for the male modelling sector. "Ultimately it's the women who lead in fashion, and the men will always tag along," he said.

A Central Saint Martin’s alumni, Tina Gorjac, who studied under McQueen is set to create a new fashion line called Pure Human, with the celebrated design mogul’s skin tissue, reports femalefirst. Gorjac pulled the creative mastermind’s locks of hair from the garments containing his tresses in the pockets from his first collection in 1992 called Jack the Ripper Stalks His Victims. The hair samples carrying the couturier’s DNA have been scientifically modified with cell culture to successfully grow patches of flesh, which follows the same process as animal hide, and is then tanned, cut into panels and sewn together to create... Gorjac’s project was reportedly given the go ahead to use the body hair from McQueen’s debut capsule by the owner of the clothing range, who has donated more hair to assist with her upcoming creations. The budding designer had previously revealed her plans to make the unusual clothing range have not been prevented because there are no copyright laws inhibiting the use of human genetics.

As often is the case, the bestie and longtime stylist of Lady Gaga, whom Maxwell first met in 2010 when he was assistant to Gaga’s former stylist Nicola Formichetti, was dressed in his signature look. Between eating crudités and taking cigarette breaks, Maxwell, who lives in New York, shared more of his story. Fashion always has been a part of his life. Maxwell grew up in Longview, Texas, a city with a population of about 82,000. He often spent afternoons after school at his grandmother’s clothing store and he made dresses for his sisters out of bed sheets, belting them with his father’s... When he was 18, he left Texas for New York to study painting and explore his passion for photography. (He recently photographed his new ad campaign. ) He made a brief return to Texas — this time to Austin to finish school — before returning to New York when he was 23 to pursue a fashion career. Trying to recall details from his younger years, he says: “I’m 31 now. Today, Maxwell juggles a career as a stylist and working with his team in New York to create his ready-to-wear collection. Maxwell says he doesn’t sketch the collection in advance but instead drapes fabric on a woman as he goes. “I want it to be a reliable brand that women can come to each season,” says the designer, whose gowns and dresses have been worn by Karlie Kloss, Iman and Kerry Washington. “Brandon approaches fashion with an attention to detail,” says Roopal Patel, fashion director for Saks. He really knows the female form so well. That’s the beauty of great clothing. Despite his sometimes hectic schedule, Maxwell says he doesn’t see himself putting away his styling rack anytime soon. “Basically from December to February, you’re in L. A., ” he says about styling during the awards season. That included earlier this year when he got Gaga ready for her Grammys tribute to David Bowie, only to rush to catch a flight to a snowy New York in time for his fall ’16 runway show, scheduled for the following day. “I made it,” he says. Maxwell says he loves how the singer-actress isn’t afraid to constantly change her style. “It’s been the joy of my life to work with her,” he says. As he has ventured deeper into the fashion industry this past year, Gaga has remained a true friend and champion of his work, Maxwell says, adding that she encouraged him to create his label and gave him plenty of advice. “I was able to really do a lot in the past year because of her and so many of my other best friends who really stood behind me,” says Maxwell.
